Optimising Your Learning Abilities - The Science of Learning and Neuroscience

Personal Development

Description

Introduction

To close skill gaps, companies are putting training at the top of their strategies: 85% will invest in upskilling and 70% in recruiting new skills, according to the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report 2025. Learning how to learn is becoming a job skill in its own right.

This module is the operational cornerstone of the “Optimising Your Potential – 5 Key Skills for your Career” program. It turns the intention to improve (Module 1 on Growth Mindset) into practical, repeatable learning systems you can use every day.

What if you learned how to learn by understanding how your brain actually works? Neuroscience has profoundly reshaped our understanding of learning mechanisms, showing why some methods are ineffective and others remarkably powerful.

This training will help you:

  • Understand how your brain encodes, stores, and retrieves information
  • Identify common mistakes that sabotage learning (illusion of competence, passive rereading, cognitive overload, etc.)
  • Practice the most effective, neuroscience-backed techniques (active recall, spaced repetition, interleaving, etc.)
  • Save time and become more effective in your reading, training, or professional projects

Learning how to learn is a key 21st-century skill. With the science of learning, you can optimise it.

Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how your brain learns and memorises, according to the key principles of neuroscience of learning.
  • Identify the most effective learning techniques (active retrieval, spaced repetition, interleaving, etc.) and know how to apply them in practice.
  • Debunk common myths about learning (learning, multitasking, innate talent, etc.).
  • Use practical strategies to learn complex or difficult content more effectively.
  • Reduce the impact of procrastination and distractions by applying tools from the science of attention.

Teaching methods

Each module of the program is based on an active, science-based and action-oriented pedagogical approach. Participants alternate between scientific theoretical input, interactive discussions, real-life case studies and high value-added practical exercises.

Structure of Each Module

  •  Before the training

    •   30 minutes of mandatory learning content to be completed in advance (articles, videos, interviews, etc.)

  •  Day 1 (3 hours – face-to-face)

    •  Interactive presentations and discussions around key concepts

    •  Workshops, role-playing and practical exercises to facilitate tool adoption

    •  Experience sharing and co-construction of solutions adapted to each participant

  •  A few days later: follow-up virtual session (2 hours – online)

    •  Feedback on real-life experimentation

    •  Collective analysis of successes and challenges encountered

    •  Additional input and personalised advice to ensure long-term integration of new skills

Personal action plan:
Between the two sessions, participants are invited to apply the methods and tools in real-life situations, fostering experiential learning and long-term skill acquisition.

Programme

Part 1 – How your brain really learns

  • Understanding the two modes of brain learning (diffuse and focused)

  • Exploring the role of memory and the mechanisms of chunking (information encapsulation)

  • Deciphering the biological functioning of attention and memory consolidation

Part 2 – Learning techniques and mistakes

  • Applying the most effective methods from neuroscience (active retrieval, spaced repetition, interleaving, etc.)

  • Identify and deconstruct the main myths of learning(learning, 10,000 hours, multitasking, etc.)

  • Master specific strategies for learning complex or technical content

Part 3 – Motivation, obstacles and learning environment

  •  Manage procrastination, distractions and cognitive fatigue with practical tools

  •  Activate motivation to learn using cognitive levers (dopamine, micro-victories, visualisation of progress)

  •  Create an environment conducive to effective and sustainable learning

Conditions
