Introduction

This training course introduces you to the core AWS services and commonly used solutions. You will gain a solid understanding of key concepts in computing, databases, storage, networking, monitoring, and security. Equipped with this knowledge, you will be able to make informed decisions about cloud solutions that align with your organisation’s needs. Throughout the course, you will learn how to design, evaluate, and implement highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable, and cost-effective cloud architectures.


Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  •  Describe terminology and concepts related to AWS services

  •  Navigate the AWS Management Console confidently 

  •  Explain core concepts of AWS security measures, including Identity and Access Management. (IAM)

  •  Distinguish between several AWS compute services, such as Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS, and Amazon EKS

  •  Understand AWS database and storage offerings, including Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon S3

  •  Explore AWS networking services and their use cases 

  •  Access and configure monitoring features using Amazon CloudWatch

1. Introduction to Amazon Web Services

  • Hosting the employee directory application in AWS.

Hands-on lab : Introduction to AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM).


 2. AWS Compute

  • Compute as a service in AWS.

  • Introduction to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.

  • Amazon EC2 instance lifecycle.

  • AWS container services.

  • What is serverless?.

  • Introduction to AWS Lambda.

  • Choosing the right compute service.

Hands-on lab : Launch the employee directory application on Amazon EC2.

3. AWS Networking

  • Networking in AWS.

  • Introduction to Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC).

  • Amazon VPC routing.

  • Amazon VPC security.

Hands-on lab: Create a VPC and restart the company directory application in Amazon EC2.

4. AWS Storage

  • AWS storage types.

  • Amazon EC2 instance storage and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS).

  • Object storage with Amazon S3.

  • Choosing the right storage service.

Hands-on lab : Create an Amazon S3 bucket.

5. Databases

  • Explore databases in AWS.

  • Amazon Relational Database Service.

  • Specialized databases.

  • Introduction to Amazon DynamoDB.

  • Choosing the right AWS database service.

Hands-on lab : Implementing and managing Amazon DynamoDB.

    Prerequisites

    Participants should have experience in the field of information technology, along with a basic understanding of data centre architectures and components, including servers, networks, databases, and applications.

    Suitable for SysOps administrators, solution architects, developers, and anyone looking to get started with AWS.
